We, the citizens of Hamilton County, do support and hereby endorse the "Rails to Trails" proposal to build a paved, shared-use recreational trail along the [approximately] 6-mile corridor of property, beginning just west of Corridor "J"and running parallel along Sequoyah Road to the Sequoyah Nuclear Facility at Igou Ferry Road. We support this project for the following reasons: 1. We support the efforts to promote a healthy and active lifestyle by providing a suitable and safe venue for walkers, runners, and cyclists and possibly equestrians. 2. We believe this will enhance the beauty of our residential and business community by converting abandoned rails into a safe and scenic recreational park for residents of all ages to enjoy. 3. We believe that this multi-use project will benefit our children in that three Hamilton County schools are located along the proposed corridor of this trail, thereby allowing instructors to use this facility for physical education training, and field trips in science and nature classes. 4. There are no existing similar recreational facilities in the northern portion of Hamilton County. 5. We believe this to be a true asset to our community in that it will make our residential communities more livable and increase the value of homes, while also encouraging more growth and expanding the tax base of our towns. We commend the leaders of this project for their dedicated and selfless work on this very worthwhile community project. We thank our good business neighbor, TVA's Sequoyah Nuclear Power Plant for their magnificent generosity to this and future generations. This is a wonderful gift to our community. |
